Kilimanjaro Tour Overview

The Rongai Route is the only trail on Mount Kilimanjaro that approaches from the north, near the Kenyan border. Known for its serene environment, lesser crowds, and unique perspective of the mountain, it’s a great option for those seeking a quieter Kilimanjaro experience.

Compared to routes like Machame or Marangu, the Rongai Route is less crowded, which makes it an excellent choice for trekkers who prefer a quieter, more solitary experience. It traverses the less-visited northern slopes of the mountain, offering a more remote atmosphere.

While not as lush as the southern routes, the Rongai Route offers its own unique scenery. It starts in the dry savannah and farmland, progressing through alpine moorland, and ends with the stark, rocky landscape closer to the summit. Trekkers can enjoy panoramic views over the Kenyan plains and an impressive sunrise view from the top.

Kilimanjaro Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to the Charity Hotel. After settling in, your guide will arrive to provide a comprehensive briefing on the upcoming hike. This session will cover what to expect each day and ensure you have all the necessary gear for the adventure ahead. Dinner and Overnight at Charity Hotel.
Day 2
Following an early breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to the Marangu Gate where the porters will prepare your belongings for the hike. After registering with the Tanzania National Park, you'll proceed to the Rongai trailhead, about 2.5 hours away. The trail starts in tall cornfields and transitions into a pine forest, featuring a gradual ascent that allows you to enjoy the picturesque surroundings. A lunch break will be taken midway up the trail, and you will reach Simba Cave Camp in the late afternoon or early evening. The camp will be set up by the porters and chef, who will prepare your meals and ensure everything is ready for your arrival.Dinner and Overnight at Simba Cave Camp.
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast, you will continue your ascent to Kikelewa Cave. The trail passes Second Cave, an excellent spot for a lunch break. The porters will have set up your tents at Thed Cave Camp before your arrival, and they will prepare drinking and washing water for you. Enjoy evening snacks and a warm dinner prepared by the chef, and prepare for a chilly night at this exposed camp. Dinner and Overnight at Thed Cave Camp
Day 4
Today's hike features a short but steep trail to Mawenzi Tarn Camp. In the moorland, you'll encounter exotic plants like giant lobelia and groundsel. The camp offers spectacular views and a chance for your body to acclimate. Enjoy a hot dinner and washing water while taking in a magnificent sunset. Dinner and Overnight at Kibo Hut.
Day 5
Your guide will wake you around 11:30 PM to begin the summit attempt. The trail is rocky up to Hans Meyer Cave and continues to Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. From Gillman’s Point, you'll traverse a snow-covered path to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Spending a short time at the summit to take photographs and enjoy tea, you'll then descend to Barafu Camp and continue to Horombo Hut. The descent to Horombo Hut will take about six hours. Dinner and Overnight at Horombo Hut
Day 6
After breakfast, you'll celebrate your achievement with your team. You’ll then descend to Marangu Gate, which takes about six hours. At the gate, you'll sign in to receive your certificate of completion. Those who reached Gillman’s Point will receive a green certificate, while those who reached Uhuru Peak will receive a gold certificate. Following this, you will be driven back to Arusha/Moshi or to the airport. Alternatively, we can arrange for your transfer to the airport the following day.
